years of age are:

7. Q. Why should I call 911?
A. 911 phone calls should be made only in the case of an emergency.
Examples:
- A fire or medical emergency
- A crime in progress
- Any life threatening event
- Any circumstance which creates an immediate and serious public
safety hazard
**911 is for emergencies only, there have been a lot of phone calls
made on 911 asking for directions, for phone numbers, for everyday
administrative inquiries and this ties up the lines for true
emergencies.
Some key information needed when you do make a 911 call is:
1. Your location – a physical address, or a street and cross street, or the best
description of the area you are in if you do not know where you are
2. Nature of the call – why you need assistance
3. Your phone number, name and involvement with the call
4. IF the call involves a crime in progress provide a description of the persons or
vehicles involved
5. Stay on the line as instructed. Do not hang up unless it is dangerous for you to
stay on the phone.

8. Q. Why do I need a VIN verification when I try to transfer my title?
A. The inspection involves physically verifying the vehicle identification
number on the vehicle and is a theft prevention measure. VIN inspections
are required on all vehicle transactions, except for never titled vehicles
with Manufacturers Statement of Origin and Wyoming title transfers. VIN
inspections are required by state law. The inspection verifies that the
vehicle you purchased belongs to the documents given to you. If your title
has an incorrect VIN you will have trouble selling the vehicle or in
proving you are the rightful owner.

9. Q. Who creates the Powell Municipal Ordinances?
A. The Powell City Council is the legislative branch of local government and
creates city ordinances, some that have originated at the request of the
citizens of Powell. The Powell Police Department enforces those laws
along with other State and Federal laws.

10. Q. Who do I need to call if I have a problem or complaint that may not be an
emergency?

A. If you know where the problem occurred or is occurring you will need to
contact the agency within that jurisdiction. For example, if a burglary occurs at a
residence in the county you will need to call the Park County Sheriff’s Office or if
it happened within the Powell city limits you will call the Powell Police
Department. If you have a traffic complaint that occurred on a state highway, the
Wyoming Highway Patrol will need to be contacted, etc. In some cases, an
incident may occur in another state or city’s jurisdiction. In this case you will
need to contact that agency’s proper authorities.
